This house was originally named the Marlborough Arms but adopted this title in 1973 when His Master's Voice celebrated its 75th anniversary. The firm itself had been known as the Gramophone Company until 1909, when it first used the famous portrait of Nipper the fox-terrier listening to the voice of his master being broadcast from a gramophone horn.
